“For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: and though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.” Job 19:25-27
With ancient Job, those who yet today place their hope and confidence in the atoning sacrifice of Christ Jesus on the cross receive by faith God’s pardon and forgiveness and the certain hope of the resurrection and eternal life with the risen Christ in His eternal kingdom. Though we die and our bodies decay in the grave, yet on the last day, we will see with our own eyes our crucified and risen Redeemer, the Lord Jesus Christ!
O crucified and risen Savior, raise me up from death to life and grant to me a place in Your eternal kingdom, for the sake of Your death for my sins and Your glorious resurrection. Amen.
[Scripture is quoted from the King James Version of the Bible.]
“For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” Romans 8:5-6
Those who live according to the inclinations and desires of their corrupt human natures set their minds on things that only lead to eternal death and damnation. But those who live in accord with the leading and instruction of the Holy Spirit will desire the things of the Spirit. They continue in the Word of God, are kept in the true and saving faith, and receive in Christ Jesus forgiveness for all their sins and the everlasting joys of heaven.
Grant that we walk according to the leading and guiding of the Holy Spirit and continue in Your Word, O Lord. Amen.
[Scripture is taken from the King James Version of the Bible.]
“For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: that the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” Romans 8:3-4
Though the law of God is good, it could not save us because we are, since Adam’s fall, sinful and unable to fulfill the law’s demands. But Christ Jesus, God’s own dear Son, fulfilled it for us and then suffered the condemnation of God’s law in our stead so that we who walk by the Spirit of God and trust in Christ Jesus might be counted righteous and saved.
O gracious and merciful God, thank You for the gift of Your Son and His sacrifice for my sins that I might by Your Spirit hear Your Word and trust in Christ as my Savior. Amen.
[Scripture is quoted from the King James Version of the Bible.]
“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” Romans 8:1
Those who continue to walk according to the sinful longings of the flesh will be condemned on the last day. But those who repent and, by the Spirit’s gracious working through God’s Word, trust in Christ Jesus and His atoning sacrifice on the cross are not condemned but are forgiven and counted righteous by God.
Keep me in the true faith, O God. Grant that I continue in daily contrition and repentance and hold fast in faith to Christ Jesus and His cross unto life everlasting. Amen.
[Scripture is quoted from the King James Version of the Bible.]
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
The greatest love of all is that of God for the people of this world. He gave His only-begotten Son to die on the cross and atone for our sins so that we might not be condemned and perish in His judgment upon this world but have never-ending life in fellowship and communion with God, our Creator and Redeemer, through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ our Savior!
Grant that I know You and Your love for me in the gift of Your Son and trust in Him for pardon, forgiveness, and life eternal in communion with You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
