“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.” Psalm 1:1-2

While most people think the way to blessing and happiness is to conform to the views and ways of this world, true blessing lies in walking in the ways of the LORD and delighting in and meditating upon the teachings of God’s Word.

O LORD, grant that I not walk in the ways of this world but look to You and Your Word to lead me and guide me in the way of true blessing through faith in Jesus, my Savior. Amen.

“Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil.” Ecclesiastes 5:1

Rather than going to church thinking God will be pleased with us because of our worship and service, we ought to humble ourselves before God, acknowledge our unworthiness, and seek to hear and heed His Word so that we might see and repent of our sins and look to Him for mercy and forgiveness for the sake of Jesus Christ and His atoning sacrifice on the cross for the sins of the world. The Bible calls human efforts to please God evil, but God accepts the worship of those who hear His Word and repent.

O God, be merciful to me, a sinner! Give me the wisdom to humble myself before You and heed Your Word rather than exalting myself and seeking to be acceptable in Your sight by my worship and service. Amen.

“There are the workers of iniquity fallen: they are cast down, and shall not be able to rise.” Psalm 36:12

Those who turn aside into sin and oppose and seek to mislead those who hold fast to Christ and His Word are doomed to fall and be judged by God. They will be thrown down and utterly defeated and will never be able to rise again.

O merciful God, grant that we not lose heart but hold fast to You and Your Word and not fall and lose our way. Keep us in Your Word that we might repent of our sins and place our faith in the redemption won for us through the shed blood of Christ Jesus. In His name, we pray. Amen.

“No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.” John 6:44

Jesus tells us that, unless God reveals the truth taught in His Word, no one can come to Jesus and trust in Him as the Messiah and Savior from sin and its eternal punishment. Only those taught by God from His Word recognize Jesus as the Son of God in human flesh and place their trust in Him as their Savior, and Jesus will raise them up to everlasting life on the last day.

O dearest Jesus, Son of God and Son of man, grant that we hear Your Word and come to You in faith for pardon, forgiveness, and the everlasting joys of heaven. We ask this for the sake of Your redeeming sacrifice for us on the cross. Amen.

“Let not the foot of pride come against me, and let not the hand of the wicked remove me.” Psalm 36:11

The psalmist prays that God would preserve and protect him from the violent attacks of those who proudly resist and oppose God and His Word and that God would not let the wicked turn him away from Christ and salvation through faith in His name.

Keep me, O God, from those who oppose and fight against the truth of Your Word, and do not let the words and actions of the wicked cause me to turn from You and Your promises of life and salvation through faith in Jesus Christ and His cross. Amen.
