“Wash, make yourselves clean. Put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes. Cease to do evil. Learn to do well. Seek judgment. Relieve the oppressed. Judge the fatherless. Plead for the widow. ‘Come now and let us reason together,’ says the LORD. ‘Though your sins are as scarlet, they shall be white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.’” Isaiah 1:16-18
Though our sins stain our lives like scarlet and crimson, God offers us mercy and forgiveness in the shed blood of Jesus Christ, His Son, if we but acknowledge our sins and look to Him in faith for pardon and cleansing. We read in 1 John 1:8-9: “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Have mercy upon me, O God, and wash me thoroughly from my sin, granting me pardon and forgiveness in the shed blood of Jesus, my Savior. Amen.
