“For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin.” Romans 6:5-7
When we were joined to Christ in baptism, our old sin-corrupted self was crucified with Christ and put to death so that sin would no longer rule over us. And, being joined to Christ in His death, we shall also be raised to new life in the image and likeness of the risen Christ. Our old sinful nature is now crucified with Christ so that we may live for our risen Savior and not continue to serve sin or give in to its desires.
Grant that we count ourselves dead to sin but alive to You, dear Savior, and live for You according to your Word. Amen.
[Scripture is quoted from the King James Version of the Bible.]
