“Jesus answered and said to him, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.’” John 3:3
Until one is reborn from above by the gracious working of the Holy Spirit through God’s Word and Sacraments, he cannot see the kingdom of God or understand what it is. Nicodemus, who came to Jesus at night, did not know God’s kingdom aright because he, along with the rest of the Pharisees, had rejected the baptism of John and did not trust in Jesus as the Messiah and Savior.
Dear Lord Jesus, grant me true knowledge of You and faith in Your cross through the preaching of Your Word and baptism in Your name. Amen.
